Support Young People Through Early Mental Health Intervention
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and compassionate Whole School Approach (WSA) Practitioner to join its innovative Wellbeing in Mind Team based across educational settings in the Selby area.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people through prevention, early intervention, and collaborative school-based support.
The successful candidate will work closely with schools, healthcare professionals, and local stakeholders to strengthen mental health awareness, wellbeing strategies, and early support pathways within educational environments.
About the Wellbeing in Mind Service
The Wellbeing in Mind Teams are embedded within schools and colleges across North Yorkshire and focus on delivering early intervention mental health support for children and young people.
The service works across three key areas:
Whole School Approach to Wellbeing
Supporting schools and colleges to create positive mental health cultures through policies, training, wellbeing campaigns, and educational resources.
Advice & Consultation
- Providing guidance and practical support to education staff to increase confidence in responding to student wellbeing concerns.
Direct Early Intervention Support
- Delivering low-intensity mental health interventions for young people, often using evidence-based cognitive behavioural approaches.
Key Responsibilities
As a Whole School Approach Practitioner, you will:
- Coordinate wellbeing and mental health initiatives across participating schools
Develop and support whole-school wellbeing strategies and resources
Build effective relationships with schools, colleges, healthcare teams, and external agencies
Organise and deliver wellbeing-focused activities, workshops, and training sessions
Support educational staff through consultation and collaborative planning
Participate in service development, governance, and quality improvement activities
Promote safeguarding, equality, inclusion, and confidentiality at all times
Assist in creating positive wellbeing cultures for children and young people
The role involves working independently with support and guidance from the leadership team while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across the service.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications
NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in health, education, business administration, or related field
GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/Level 2 equivalent) or above
Essential Experience
- Experience supporting children and young people within educational settings
Understanding of mental health difficulties affecting children and adolescents
Knowledge of whole school wellbeing approaches and education systems
Experience working collaboratively with schools and partner organisations
Strong communication and organisational skills
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and inclusive practice
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Understanding of project or programme coordination
Experience with audits, assessments, and action planning
Ability to manage competing priorities effectively
