Role Overview

This is a senior Consultant Psychiatrist opportunity within adult community mental health services, based in the Harrogate and Ripon locality. You will work primarily with the Ripon Integrated Community Team (RICT), delivering high-quality psychiatric care within a well-established, multidisciplinary service.

The area offers a diverse population with a mix of urban and rural communities, bringing a broad range of clinical presentations and service needs. You will join a collaborative team environment and contribute to a modern, integrated model of care.

Service Structure

Mental health services in this locality are delivered through:

  • Harrogate Integrated Community Team (HICT)
    Ripon Integrated Community Team (RICT)
    Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team
    Liaison services based at Harrogate District Hospital

Inpatient services are provided off-site at Foss Park Hospital (York), with strong links to community teams for continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior psychiatric leadership within the community team
    Deliver outpatient assessments and follow-up clinics
    Conduct approximately 2 new assessments and 10 follow-ups per week
    Lead clinical decision-making using a bio-psycho-social approach
    Undertake Mental Health Act (MHA) responsibilities where required
    Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and service planning
    Support and supervise junior medical staff
    Act as lead professional for selected patients (non-CPA cases)

Essential Qualifications

  • MBBS (or equivalent medical degree)
    Full registration with the General Medical Council
    Eligibility for Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
    Section 12 approval (or ability to obtain)
    Approved Clinician status (or willingness to achieve)

Skills & Experience

  • Strong clinical expertise in adult mental health
    Ability to manage complex cases and clinical uncertainty
    Excellent communication and leadership skills
    Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
    Knowledge of Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA)
