Role Overview
This is a senior leadership opportunity within children and young people’s mental health services, focused on shaping and delivering the Wellbeing in Mind Teams (WiMT). These teams are part of the national Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) programme, designed to provide early intervention support within schools and colleges.
As an Advanced Clinical Specialist, you will lead the clinical direction of WiMT services across North Yorkshire and York. This role combines strategic leadership, service development, and advanced clinical practice, giving you the opportunity to influence how mental health support evolves in education settings ahead of nationwide expansion targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible clinical leadership across multiple Wellbeing in Mind Teams
Ensure delivery of consistent, evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions
Lead service development and redesign, adapting models to meet future demand
Offer advanced clinical input in complex cases and safeguarding situations
Oversee clinical governance, quality assurance, and risk management
Supervise, mentor, and support the development of clinical staff
Use data and service insights to drive improvement and innovation
Build strong partnerships with schools, commissioners, CAMHS, and system partners
Represent the service at local, regional, and national levels

The Wellbeing in Mind Teams deliver early mental health support directly within education settings. The service focuses on prevention, early intervention, and improving access to care for children and young people.
With national plans to expand coverage to all state-funded schools by 2030, this role plays a key part in shaping future service models and ensuring high standards of care.

Essential Qualifications
- Registration with a recognised professional body (e.g., NMC, HCPC, GMC, Social Work England)
Postgraduate diploma (or higher) in a relevant clinical field
Advanced clinical qualification (or willingness to complete within one year)
Training and experience in clinical supervision
Experience & Skills
- Significant experience at Band 7 level or above in children and young people’s mental health services
Experience in early intervention or school-based mental health models
Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage complex clinical situations independently
Experience in service development, audit, and quality improvement
Excellent communication and partnership-building skills
