About the Institution
Established in 1915, the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London is a leading centre for the study of Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe, as well as Russia and the Baltic region. The School is internationally recognised for its interdisciplinary approach, combining perspectives from history, politics, economics, culture, and language.
Its mission is to deepen global understanding of the region through innovative research and teaching, while contributing to academic and public discourse worldwide.
About the Fellowship
This prestigious fellowship offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career scholar to pursue independent research in Albanian Studies over a two-year period.
The successful candidate will:
- Design and deliver a high-quality research project that contributes meaningfully to the field
Produce peer-reviewed publications and share findings with both academic and wider audiences
Support teaching activities, including lectures, seminars, and dissertation supervision
Contribute to the academic life of SSEES and collaborate with colleagues across disciplines
Start Date: 1 September 2026
End Date: 31 August 2028

Candidate Profile
You should demonstrate:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Anthropology, History, Politics, Sociology, Linguistics, Economics, Cultural Studies, or related fields)
Proven expertise in Albanian Studies
Strong written and spoken Albanian language skills
A solid track record or clear potential for academic publication
Excellent organisational, project management, and digital skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Moodle)
A collaborative mindset aligned with principles of open research and academic integrity
