About the Role
Henley Business School at the University of Reading is seeking a Project and Innovation Manager to support the delivery of a high-impact health research initiative focused on improving early diagnosis of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs).
The project—RMD-Health—is funded by major research bodies and aims to develop a machine learning–enabled clinical decision support system. This system is designed to assist healthcare professionals in identifying and referring patients more effectively within NHS pathways.
You will play a central role in ensuring the smooth coordination, governance, and delivery of this complex, multi-partner project, while also contributing to innovation and real-world implementation strategies.
Your Role in the Project
- Working within the Informatics Research Centre, you will collaborate with academic researchers, NHS clinicians, and external stakeholders. The role blends project management, research coordination, and innovation support.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Coordination
- Oversee day-to-day project operations and ensure progress against timelines
Maintain detailed project plans, risk registers, and reporting frameworks
Prepare updates for internal teams and funding bodies
Multi-site Collaboration
Coordinate activities across NHS partners, including Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford University Hospitals NHS
Foundation Trust
- Build strong working relationships with clinicians, researchers, and governance teams
Ethics & Regulatory Compliance
Support submissions and updates for ethics approval processes (IRAS/HRA)
Ensure compliance with NHS research governance standards
Maintain documentation aligned with AI as a Medical Device (AIaMD) and UK regulatory frameworks
Pilot Implementation
- Coordinate pilot studies and clinical validation within NHS pathways
Support system integration with existing NHS IT infrastructure
Monitor operational challenges and escalate where necessary
Innovation & Impact
- Conduct market and stakeholder research to support adoption
Engage with healthcare providers, policymakers, and industry partners
Contribute to innovation programmes such as ICURe and related initiatives
Support strategies for NHS uptake and international expansion
About You
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in project management within a research, healthcare, or innovation environment.
You will bring:
- Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
Strong organisational and analytical skills
Ability to work across academic, clinical, and industry settings
Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences
Familiarity with research governance, ethics processes, or NHS systems (desirable)
An interest in digital health, AI, or healthcare innovation would be particularly valuable.
