About the Opportunity
The Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Sussex is inviting applications for a part-time Assistant Professor role focused on Education and Scholarship within Criminology.
This position is centred on teaching excellence and student engagement. You will play an active role in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including lectures, seminars, and dissertation supervision. Alongside teaching, you will contribute to marking, assessment, and providing academic guidance to students throughout their studies.
You will be joining a collaborative academic environment where teaching quality and student support are key priorities.
What You Will Do
Deliver engaging teaching across criminology modules
Facilitate seminars and interactive learning sessions
Supervise student dissertations and research projects
Undertake marking and assessment responsibilities
Provide academic mentoring and student support

About You

Essential requirements include:
A PhD in Criminology or a closely related discipline
Experience teaching in higher education

About the Department
The Department of Sociology and Criminology is a well-established, research-active academic community. It brings together around 30 academic staff and supports approximately 450 students.
The department offers postgraduate programmes in areas such as Criminology and Gender Studies, attracting a diverse student body each year. Its research profile is strong, with a significant proportion of work recognised as world-leading and internationally excellent.
