About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Fellow to join the research group of Dr Leandro Castellano at the University of Sussex. The role focuses on investigating miRNA–mRNA regulatory networks as potential therapeutic targets for immunotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer.

You will lead and conduct independent research, designing and delivering experimental studies to generate high-quality, reproducible data. Your work will contribute to peer-reviewed publications, future grant applications, and presentations at national and international scientific conferences.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and executing molecular and cellular biology experiments
    Analysing and interpreting experimental data
    Contributing to publications and funding proposals
    Presenting findings at seminars and conferences
    Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students
    Supporting teaching, outreach, and wider academic activities

The role operates within UK research governance frameworks, including:

You will work in a highly collaborative environment, with access to leading facilities such as the Sussex RNA Research Centre and the Sussex Cancer Research Centre.

About You

You will have a strong background in molecular biology, with a keen interest in cancer biology and immunology. You will contribute to identifying and characterising novel miRNAs involved in tumour immune evasion.

Essential skills and experience include:

Experience with CRISPR-based genome editing
Cell culture and manipulation of cancer cell lines
Laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry, immunoblotting, RT–qPCR, and RNA immunoprecipitation
Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Experience in RNA biology, cancer research, or immunological assays is desirable. A proactive approach and strong communication skills are essential.
