About the Role
University College London (UCL) is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable academic to join its School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) as a Lecturer (Teaching) in Politics.
This role is centred on delivering high-quality teaching and contributing to the academic life of a globally recognised centre for the study of Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe, Russia, and Eurasia.
You will play a key role in shaping the student learning experience across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, bringing fresh perspectives to teaching in politics—particularly in areas related to governance or political economy.
About SSEES
Founded in 1915, SSEES is one of the UK’s leading hubs for interdisciplinary research and teaching on the societies, politics, economies, and cultures of a complex and strategically important region.
The School combines expertise across disciplines including politics, economics, history, sociology, and culture, and encourages innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to both teaching and research.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Design and deliver engaging teaching across undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes
Contribute to curriculum development and module coordination
Teach in areas such as governance, political economy, or related subfields
Support student learning through assessment, feedback, and academic guidance
Undertake administrative and coordination responsibilities within the department
Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive teaching environment
Your teaching may engage with themes such as:
Public policy and institutional governance
Corruption, clientelism, and state capture
Energy politics and security
Technology and political systems
About You
We are looking for a motivated educator with a strong academic background and regional expertise.
You will bring:
A PhD in Politics or a closely related discipline (completed by the start date)
Strong knowledge of social science research methods (quantitative or mixed methods preferred)
Regional expertise in one or more areas within Central, Eastern, or South-Eastern Europe, the Baltics, the Caucasus, Russia, or Central Asia
A particular interest in Central Europe (desirable)
Proficiency in at least one relevant regional language to support teaching or research
A commitment to delivering excellent teaching and supporting diverse student cohorts
