About the Fellowship

University College London (UCL) is offering a prestigious Alexander Nash Fellowship in Albanian Studies within its renowned School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES). This is a unique opportunity for an early-career researcher to pursue an independent research agenda while contributing to teaching within a globally respected academic environment.

SSEES has a long-standing reputation for excellence in the study of Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe. The School promotes interdisciplinary research and aims to deepen global understanding of the region through innovative scholarship and teaching.

What You’ll Do

As the Alexander Nash Fellow, you will divide your time between research and teaching, contributing to both academic excellence and student development.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Designing and delivering a two-year independent research project in Albanian Studies
Producing high-quality, peer-reviewed publications
Sharing research findings with academic and wider audiences
Supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Supervising dissertations, particularly in areas related to Albanian Studies
Engaging with the wider academic community at UCL and beyond

About You

We are looking for a motivated researcher with a strong academic background and a clear research vision.

You should have:

A PhD in a relevant discipline within the arts, humanities, or social sciences
Proven research experience focused on Albania or Albanian Studies
Strong written and spoken proficiency in the Albanian language
The ability to manage research projects effectively and meet deadlines
Good IT skills, including familiarity with tools such as Moodle and Microsoft Office
A collaborative mindset aligned with open research and interdisciplinary working

Relevant academic backgrounds may include (but are not limited to): Anthropology, Cultural Studies, History, Politics, Sociology, Economics, International Relations, and Linguistics.
