About the Opportunity
The University of Reading is seeking a creative and driven Communications & Engagement Officer to join its Research Communications team. This is an exciting chance to help bring research stories to life—connecting academic work with audiences locally, nationally, and globally.
You’ll be part of a collaborative External Relations Directorate, working in a dynamic environment where communications play a central role in shaping the University’s reputation and research impact.
Your Role
In this position, you’ll contribute to how the University shares its research with the world. You’ll support the planning and delivery of engaging, high-quality communications across a variety of platforms.
Your day-to-day work will include:
Creating compelling content for websites, blogs, newsletters, and social media
Supporting campaigns that promote research achievements and impact
Working with academics and partners to translate complex ideas into accessible content
Contributing to integrated communications across paid, owned, and earned media
Helping to enhance the University’s visibility and reputation for research excellence

You’ll bring:
Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics
Experience producing digital content for websites and online platforms
A background in communications, marketing, PR, or media relations
Confidence in working with a range of stakeholders across an organisation
Familiarity with digital tools such as content management systems, SEO, and analytics
The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
A genuine interest in research communication and public engagement will set you apart.
