About the Role
The University of Sussex is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Criminology (Education and Scholarship) to join its vibrant Sociology and Criminology Department on a part-time basis.
This role is centred on delivering high-quality teaching and supporting student success. You will contribute to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate criminology modules through lectures, seminars, and dissertation supervision. Alongside teaching, you will play an important role in assessment, feedback, and pastoral support, helping students thrive academically and personally.
You will be joining a collaborative and welcoming academic community that places strong emphasis on teaching excellence and student experience.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver engaging lectures and interactive seminars in criminology
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations
Provide academic guidance and support to students
Undertake marking and assessment duties
Contribute to curriculum delivery and development
Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the student experience
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed educator who is passionate about criminology and student learning.
You should have:
A PhD in Criminology or a closely related subject
Previous experience teaching in a higher education environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A student-focused approach to teaching and support
The ability to work effectively within a collaborative academic team
A genuine interest in inclusive teaching practices and supporting diverse student communities will be highly valued.
