Job Description
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced IP and Commercialisation Manager to lead the development and delivery of a portfolio of enterprise and innovation projects.
The postholder will play a key role within the Innovation and Business Partnerships team, providing a high-quality intellectual property (IP) service to academic staff and students. This includes advising on IP rights, assessing new disclosures, conducting IP due diligence for research projects, and developing strategies for the commercial exploitation of research outputs.
You will work closely with external patent attorneys and stakeholders, support the negotiation of IP and commercialisation agreements, and contribute to the delivery of IP training across the institution. The role also involves supporting the successful translation of research into real-world impact through licensing and other commercialisation pathways.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and growing team committed to expanding the reach and impact of research and innovation activities.
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and commercially aware professional with proven experience in intellectual property and technology transfer, ideally within a UK university or industry environment.
A qualification in IP law or technology transfer is desirable, or equivalent professional experience. You will demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to manage a varied workload independently, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
Experience with IP databases, patent searching and analysis, and involvement in licensing or deal-making processes will be highly advantageous. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential.
