About the Institution
This position is based at the UCL Dementia Research Centre, a globally recognised hub for dementia research led by Nick Fox. The centre focuses on understanding the biological mechanisms of dementia, improving early diagnosis, and enhancing patient care.
Clinical work will take place at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square—one of the UK’s leading specialist neurological hospitals.
The role also connects closely with the UK Dementia Research Institute, supporting nationally coordinated research efforts to tackle neurodegenerative diseases.

Role Overview
This fellowship is designed for clinicians aiming to build a career in academic neurology, psychiatry, or clinical neuroscience. The role bridges clinical practice and research, offering exposure to cutting-edge work in biomarkers, neuroimaging, and population health.
You will contribute to a major longitudinal study involving participants from the 1958 British birth cohort. The position is highly collaborative, involving multiple UCL research units and clinical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct clinical assessments of research participants
Perform procedures such as lumbar punctures and coordinate PET/CT imaging
Collect and manage biological samples for genetic and biobank studies
Contribute to data cleaning, organisation, and analysis
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across UCL research centres
Support translational research linking clinical findings with scientific discovery
This work aligns with UK clinical research governance standards

Opportunity to register for a part-time PhD alongside the fellowship
Exposure to advanced neuroimaging and biomarker research
Experience within both academic and NHS clinical environments
All clinical activity will require an honorary contract with UCLH NHS Foundation Trust and a DBS checkÂ
Candidate Requirements
Essential criteria:
Registered medical practitioner with a valid UK licence to practise
MRCP (or international equivalent qualification)
Clinical experience in neurology or a related specialty (minimum SHO/ST2 level or equivalent)
Competence in lumbar puncture procedures
Strong academic track record
Key skills:
Excellent communication (written and verbal)
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
High level of professionalism and patient care
Salary & Benefits
Salary ranges from £51,140 to £78,670 per annum, including London Allowance, depending on clinical training level and NHS pay scale.
