Research Fellow – Neuroimmunology (Gut–Brain Axis in Parkinson’s Disease)UK Sponsorship

Job Description

About the Organisation

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the largest UK-wide effort dedicated to understanding and tackling the causes of dementia. At University College London (UCL), researchers combine clinical insight with advanced laboratory science to improve diagnosis, develop biomarkers, and explore new treatment strategies.

Within this environment, the Hong Lab focuses on the role of immune and glial cells in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. Their work bridges multiple disciplines, using innovative techniques including single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, advanced imaging, and human-derived cellular models.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Fellow to join the Hong Lab and lead a project investigating neuroimmune interactions along the gut–brain axis in Parkinson’s disease.

The successful candidate will explore how immune cells—particularly gut macrophages and T cells—contribute to disease progression and synuclein pathology. This work builds on recent high-impact findings published in Nature.

Key Responsibilities

Design and carry out experimental studies using in vivo and in vitro models
Apply advanced imaging and omics-based technologies
Analyse complex datasets and interpret biological findings
Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
