Consultant in Older Persons Mental Health – GWM(UK Visa Sponsorship)

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to take on a key leadership and clinical role within inpatient Older Persons Mental Health services at Gosport War Memorial Hospital. The postholder will lead patient care across Rose Ward and support wider ward services, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

As part of this appointment, eligible candidates will receive a £30,000 Golden Hello, subject to terms and conditions—recognising the importance of attracting experienced and committed professionals.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centred clinical care across inpatient wards
  • Hold Responsible Clinician (RC) duties under the Mental Health Act
  • Offer clinical leadership to junior doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Support safe, effective, and coordinated care planning
  • Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, and service development
  • Contribute to teaching, training, and academic discussions within the service

You’ll also play a vital role in:

  • Promoting open communication within teams
  • Supporting a culture of transparency, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities among staff
  • Encouraging collaborative decision-making across disciplines

Team & Working Environment

You will be part of a supportive inpatient team including:

  • A part-time Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Three Resident Doctors
  • One Middle Grade Doctor
  • The service operates across two inpatient wards, offering a dynamic and collaborative clinical setting.

Essential Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must have:

  • Registration with the General Medical Council
  • MRCPsych qualification or recognised equivalent
  • CCT in Older Persons Psychiatry (or within 6 months of interview)
  • Inclusion (or eligibility) on the Specialist Register
  • Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983
