Role Overview

If you are passionate about neurological physiotherapy and ready to step into a leadership role, this opportunity offers the perfect next step. Whether you are an experienced Band 7 or a Band 6 physiotherapist looking to progress, this role allows you to combine clinical expertise with team leadership.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality outpatient neuro rehabilitation while supporting and guiding a dedicated multidisciplinary team. Alongside clinical responsibilities, you’ll contribute to service development and help shape patient pathways, including areas such as Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Leadership & Service Coordination

  • Lead the day-to-day running of the Neuro Outpatient Physiotherapy Service
  • Support service planning, delivery, and continuous improvement
  • Deputise for the Clinical Team Leader when required
  • Ensure services align with national NHS standards and policies

2. Advanced Clinical Practice

  • Independently assess and treat patients with complex neurological conditions
  • Develop personalised rehabilitation plans using evidence-based practice
  • Manage patients with chronic and multi-layered presentations
  • Provide specialist advice to professionals including GPs and allied health staff

3. Communication & Patient Engagement

  • Communicate complex clinical information clearly to patients and carers
  • Adapt communication for individuals with cognitive, sensory, or language barriers
  • Support patients in understanding their condition and rehabilitation goals
  • Handle sensitive discussions around prognosis with empathy and clarity

4. Team Management & Development

  • Supervise Band 6 physiotherapists, technical instructors, and students
  • Conduct appraisals and support professional development
  • Manage staff allocation, rota planning, and workforce coordination
  • Contribute to recruitment and performance management processes

5. Service Development & Governance

  • Drive innovation and service improvements within the department
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, risk management, and audit standards
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusive practices across the service

6. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with consultants, nurses, occupational therapists, and community teams
  • Participate in MDT meetings and coordinated care planning
  • Support development of integrated neuro pathways across services

Person Requirements

Essential

  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy (or equivalent overseas qualification)
  • Current UK professional registration
  • Experience working at Band 6 level in neurological physiotherapy
  • Proven ability to supervise staff and students
  • Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team

Desirable

  • Experience in a team leader or specialist role
  • Leadership or management training
