This is more than a typical Acute Medicine position – it’s an opportunity to lead, innovate, and shape patient care. Somerset NHS Foundation Trust seeks an experienced and motivated Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our progressive team at Yeovil District Hospital.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide expert care across Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and Emergency Department (ED).
- Lead medical take, post-take ward rounds, and discharge planning.
- Participate in the GIM on-call rota (currently 1 in 16 weekends per year).
Service Development
- Shape clinical protocols and streamline patient pathways.
- Strengthen links with community and primary care services.

Education & Mentorship
- Supervise and teach postgraduate doctors, physician associates, and medical students from the University of Bristol.
- Contribute to professional development and clinical leadership training.
Specialist Interest
- 2 PAs allocated for your chosen specialty (e.g., frailty, perioperative medicine, acute oncology, palliative care, medical education).
- Opportunities to lead research or quality improvement in your area of expertise
Governance & Professional Standards
- Maintain compliance with GMC standards
- Participate in appraisal, clinical governance, and risk management activities.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- MBBS (or equivalent) and MRCP
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
- Broad experience in General and Acute Medicine
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills
Desirable
- Higher research degree (MD, PhD)
- Sub-specialty interest complementary to acute medicine
- Recent audit or research experience
- Knowledge of NHS service development and leadership principles
