About the Role
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking compassionate and motivated Mental Health Nurses to join our Adult Inpatient Team. This role is based on Maple Ward, a Psychiatric Intensive Care unit within the Acute Care Pathway, primarily caring for adults aged 18–65.
You will work closely with a supportive multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing skilled nursing care and contributing to the delivery of high-quality, person-centered mental health services. The role offers the opportunity to supervise junior staff and students while helping to implement evidence-based care aligned with local and national guidance.
Key Responsibilities
As a Mental Health Nurse, you will:
Clinical Care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care programmes for adults experiencing acute mental health episodes.
- Deliver direct nursing care to support the best possible health outcomes for patients.
- Use professional judgement and diagnostic reasoning in clinical decision-making.
- Support discharge planning and referrals to other health and social care services.
- Uphold patients’ rights under the Mental Health Act 1983
Team & Professional Practice
- Collaborate effectively with the MDT to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
- Supervise junior staff and students in clinical practice.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives and quality assurance processes.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- Registered Nurse (Mental Health / Learning Disability / Adult)
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Desirable:
Experience working in psychiatric intensive care or adult inpatient mental health settings.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging patients, families, and MDT colleagues.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage complex clinical situations safely.
- Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.

- This role requires an enhanced DBS check
