About Digit

The ESRC Centre for Digital Futures at Work (Digit) examines how digital technologies are transforming the world of work. Our research informs government, trade unions, businesses, and civil society on emerging issues such as AI in the workplace, flexible working practices, and digital skills development.

As part of this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering communications and engagement strategies that ensure our research reaches the right audiences and drives real-world impact.

Digit is a cross-institution collaboration, led by the Universities of Sussex and Leeds, and works closely with partners including FutureDotNow and the Institute for the Future of Work.

Role Overview

As Research Communications & Events Officer, you will:

  • Develop engaging content for websites, social media, and reports, translating complex research into accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Organise a range of internal and external events, including workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Support production of briefings, reports, and research communications that highlight Digit’s policy and societal impact.
  • Collaborate across partner universities and with non-academic stakeholders to ensure research findings are disseminated effectively.
  • Contribute to the Centre’s reputation-building efforts and strategic outreach initiatives.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a proactive, organised, and creative professional with:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating technical or academic research into clear content for non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience managing events from concept to delivery, including logistics, promotion, and evaluation.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a collaborative approach to working with teams and external partners.
  • Enthusiasm for research impact and translating academic insights into practical outcomes.

About the School

The University of Sussex Business School is an interdisciplinary, research-led faculty with five departments: Accounting & Finance, Strategy & Marketing, Management, Economics, and the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU).

This role may be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Eligibility depends on salary, SOC code (2493 – Public Relations Professionals), and points-based criteria. Candidates must perform work in the UK.
