Role Overview

NHS Forth Valley is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Registered Nurse to join the Prison Healthcare team based primarily at HMP Glenochil.

This role provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality primary healthcare services within a secure environment, supporting individuals in custody who often have complex physical and mental health needs. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team committed to delivering trauma-informed, person-centred, and safe care.

While the main base will be HMP Glenochil, staff may have opportunities to work at other healthcare sites within the service to support professional development and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Deliver high-quality primary healthcare services to patients within the prison environment.
  • Provide assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of a wide range of health conditions.
  • Support the delivery of trauma-informed care tailored to the needs of individuals in custody.

Multidisciplinary Teamwork

  • Work closely with doctors, mental health professionals, allied health staff, and prison officers.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must hold:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Relevant clinical experience in a healthcare setting

Travel and Rotation

All roles are subject to rotation within the prison healthcare service, and staff may be required to work across different locations depending on service requirements. The ability to travel within the service area is therefore essential.

Safeguarding and Security Requirements

This position requires membership in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme, administered by Disclosure Scotland.

PVG membership helps ensure that individuals working with vulnerable people meet appropriate safeguarding standards.

Working Hours Update

From 1 April 2026, the full-time working week under the Agenda for Change framework will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time roles will adjust proportionally, while hourly pay rates will increase to maintain existing salary levels.
