Position Overview
An opportunity has arisen for motivated and reliable individuals to join the Hotel Services team as a Porter/Housekeeper at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough. This role is an important part of maintaining a safe, welcoming, and hygienic healthcare environment for both patients and staff.
The successful candidate will support day-to-day operational services including cleaning, portering, and basic catering duties across clinical, office, and communal areas. Working within a multidisciplinary healthcare setting, the post holder will interact respectfully with patients and carers, many of whom may be experiencing mental health conditions or learning disabilities.

Main Responsibilities
Cleaning and Environmental Services
- Maintain cleanliness across patient areas, offices, and communal spaces.
- Carry out routine and deep-cleaning tasks using approved cleaning materials.
- Operate mechanical cleaning equipment safely, such as floor scrubbers and carpet cleaners.
Portering Duties
- Support internal transport of equipment, supplies, and materials within the hospital.
- Assist departments with operational tasks related to facility support services.
Catering Assistance
- Help with basic food preparation and service when required.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained according to hygiene standards.
Patient Interaction
- Communicate respectfully with patients, carers, and colleagues.
- Promote dignity and respect for individuals receiving care within mental health and learning disability services.
Service Improvement
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives across Hotel Services.
- Support the Trust’s commitment to continuous improvement and high service standards.
Working Pattern and Location
- Workplace: Roseberry Park Hospital, Marton Road, Middlesbrough
- Working Hours: Between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM
- Schedule: May include weekends and bank holidays
- Flexibility is important, and staff may occasionally be required to work additional hours when necessary.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (or willingness to achieve within 12 months)
- Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy skills
- ITQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent
Experience
Applicants must demonstrate experience in:
- General cleaning duties
- Safe use of cleaning materials and equipment
- Working or volunteering in a mental health or learning disability setting
- Portering tasks within a service environment
Knowledge
Candidates should understand:
Health and Safety procedures
- COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations
- National healthcare cleaning standards
- Deep-cleaning processes
- Patient-Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE)
- Confidentiality requirements in healthcare services
Desirable Criteria
The following would be beneficial but not essential:
- NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping or a related qualification
- Experience working in a hospital environment

Induction and Training
Successful applicants will complete a five-day induction programme before beginning their role. The location of this training will be confirmed prior to the start date.
Background Checks
This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, meaning the successful candidate must undergo a criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
