Job Description

Staff Nurse – Headland Unit (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies)
Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Truro

Are you a Registered Nurse who’s passionate about making a real difference in cancer care?

We’re looking for motivated, compassionate nurses to join our friendly and supportive team on the Headland Unit. This is a fantastic chance to build your skills in a welcoming outpatient environment where every day feels meaningful.

About the Role & Our Unit

The Headland Unit is a vibrant, Monday-to-Friday outpatient area dedicated to delivering Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) – including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. It’s a busy but incredibly rewarding space where patients receive their treatments in a calm, day-case setting.

Whether you already have oncology experience or you’re simply curious about this field, we’d love to hear from you. We don’t expect you to be an expert straight away – what matters most is your enthusiasm, your caring nature, and your willingness to grow.

What You’ll Bring

  • NMC registration as a Registered Nurse
  • At least 12 months’ post-qualification experience (any specialty is fine)
  • A genuine interest in cancer services and patient-centred care
  • Enthusiasm for learning new clinical skills

Previous experience in cancer care or SACT is helpful but not essential – we’ll provide a comprehensive, fully supported training programme tailored to you.

How We’ll Support You

You’ll never be thrown in at the deep end. Our dedicated in-house practice educators work closely with every new starter, helping you build confidence and develop your clinical skills at your own pace.

We also strongly encourage ongoing learning:

  • Access to degree-level modules
  • Opportunities to attend local, national, and even international conferences
  • Regular study time and professional development support

There may be times when we ask for your help on our sister inpatient ward (Lowen), and we value nurses who are flexible and team-spirited.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering high-quality, compassionate SACT in our outpatient setting
  • Providing truly patient-centred care that puts people at the heart of everything
  • Leading and supervising both qualified and support staff
  • Working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure seamless care

Why Join the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust?

We’re the main provider of acute and specialist care across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, caring for around 500,000 local residents (plus plenty of visitors in the summer!). With approximately 6,700 staff and a strong focus on teaching and research, we’re a forward-thinking organisation that values innovation and professional growth.

We’re proud to be a research-active trust with the South West Clinical School in Cornwall, supporting nurses who want to combine clinical work with academic and evidence-based practice. You’ll also benefit from our Knowledge Spa – a hub for education and collaboration right here on site.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time post, but we’re very happy to consider part-time hours for the right person. Flexible working options can be discussed at interview.
