About the Opportunity
The ESRC Centre for Digital Futures at Work (Digit) is seeking a motivated Research Communications and Events Officer to support its growing programme of research engagement and outreach.
Digit is an internationally recognised research centre exploring how digital technologies are transforming the world of work. Its research helps policymakers, businesses, trade unions, and civil society understand the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, and digital platforms on employment and skills.
In this role, you will help translate complex research findings into accessible communications and engaging events that reach a wide audience. Your work will support the centre’s mission of ensuring that academic research informs real-world decisions and policy development.
Role Responsibilities
As Research Communications and Events Officer, you will contribute to the centre’s communications and engagement strategy over the next four years.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing engaging content for the centre’s website, newsletters, and social media platforms.
- Translating research findings into accessible articles, blogs, reports, and policy briefings.
- Organising and delivering conferences, workshops, webinars, and public engagement events.
- Supporting the preparation and publication of research outputs and reports.
- Helping strengthen the centre’s reputation among policymakers, businesses, and industry leaders.
Working with researchers to promote the impact of studies on topics such as AI in the workplace, flexible working, and digital skills development.
Working Environment
The role sits within the Professional Services team at the University of Sussex Business School. You will collaborate closely with academic researchers and communications staff across multiple institutions.
Digit is a collaborative research centre jointly led by the University of Sussex and the University of Leeds, meaning the role involves working with colleagues across partner universities as well as external organisations including:

About You
We are looking for someone who enjoys communicating complex ideas to diverse audiences and who is confident managing multiple projects simultaneously.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience producing content for websites, social media, or digital publications.
- The ability to translate technical or academic information into clear, engaging language.
- Experience organising events, workshops, or conferences.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues across teams.
- An interest in research topics such as technology, the future of work, or digital transformation would be beneficial.
