About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, motivated Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry – Liaison to join our PLAN-accredited Portsmouth Liaison Psychiatry Team at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
This role offers the opportunity to provide specialist psychiatric care in a fast-paced hospital setting, working with a diverse patient population presenting with a broad range of mental health conditions.
As a key member of our team, you will deliver high-quality mental health assessments, provide expert consultations, and contribute to integrated care pathways across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional clinical care across general adult psychiatry and liaison services.
- Provide clinical leadership and support innovative approaches to patient care.
- Participate in audits, service evaluations, and clinical governance activities.
- Supervise and support junior doctors, trainees, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Contribute to educational initiatives, research, and service development.
- Collaborate with hospital teams to improve mental health services for patients across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Registration:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
- Section 12 Approved under the Mental Health Act 1983
- Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in general adult liaison psychiatry
- Strong leadership, teaching, and clinical supervision skills
- Excellent communication and multi-disciplinary team working
Compliance:
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975).
Must hold current UK professional registration.
