Role Overview

NHS Forth Valley is seeking a qualified and motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Histopathology and Diagnostic Cytology team, serving the Central Scotland region. This role is based at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, where you will contribute to providing high-quality diagnostic services that directly support patient care across the NHS.

Our department is well-equipped and modern, with recent investments in automated microtomes, ergonomic laboratory benches, and digital pathology infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to work with innovative techniques, including support for the MOHs micrographic clinic and Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) for EBUS samples. Full training will be provided for techniques where prior experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct cellular pathology testing in accordance with departmental protocols and quality standards.
  • Support diagnostic cytology services and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Contribute to digital pathology initiatives and implementation of automated laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and record-keeping to support governance and audit requirements.
  • Participate in continuing professional development to maintain registration and specialist competency.
  • Engage in departmental projects aimed at improving workflow, patient safety, and laboratory efficiency.

Essential Requirements

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with digital pathology systems and laboratory automation.
  • Experience supporting micrographic or cytology clinics.
