Paediatric Phlebotomist

Job Description

Role Overview

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Paediatric Phlebotomist to join our friendly team at Nottinghamshire Healthcare. In this role, you will provide high-quality phlebotomy services to children aged 1–12 years, and up to 18 years for children with additional needs. The service is delivered both in the Children’s Development Centre and in community clinic settings.

You will work under the supervision of the Phlebotomy Coordinator and Professional Development Lead, supporting the team in ensuring safe, efficient, and child-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, high-quality phlebotomy care to children and young people in clinic and community settings.
  • Work flexibly to meet the needs of children, young people, and their families.
  • Support anxious or nervous children and families with patience and empathy.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records to ensure effective communication and data collection using SystemOne and ICE systems.
  • Ensure clinic rooms meet infection prevention and control standards.
  • Contribute to service development and re-design initiatives.
  • Work effectively within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to provide coordinated care.
  • Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

Essential Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
  • GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Basic IT literacy

Training:

  • Hold or willing to undertake a recognised phlebotomy training module/course

Experience:

  • Working in a healthcare setting, preferably with children
  • Experience of phlebotomy services
  • Working with children with additional needs is desirable
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
  • Evidence of teamwork and independent working

Additional Information

DBS Check: Appointment is subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks. Enhanced DBS is required due to work with children

  • Health & Safety: Compliance with NHS and national health and safety guidance is required
  • Visa Sponsorship: This role does not qualify for Skilled Worker / Health & Care Visa sponsorship.
  • Costs for DBS checks are deducted from salary over the first two months.
