About the Institution
The UCL Institute of Archaeology is internationally recognised as one of the foremost centres for archaeological research and teaching. It is the largest archaeology department in the UK, with over 60 academic staff conducting fieldwork and research across five continents. The Institute is known for its advanced archaeological science laboratories and one of the world’s most comprehensive archaeology libraries.

About the Role
We are inviting applications for a full-time Lecturer (Teaching) who will take on the role of Degree Coordinator and Personal Tutor for the BA Archaeology & Anthropology programme.
This post is funded for two years to provide teaching cover during a period of research leave.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and support delivery of the BA Archaeology & Anthropology degree.
- Teach undergraduate modules in social anthropology and social theory.
- Contribute to course design, preparation, marking, and student academic support.
- Engage with interdisciplinary themes spanning world history, archaeology, human evolution, biology, and material culture.
- Work collaboratively across both departments to maintain programme excellence.
- This is a 36.5-hour per week position, inclusive of teaching, preparation, assessment, and academic duties.
About You
Applicants must hold a PhD in Anthropology or Archaeology.
We are seeking candidates who:
- Have experience teaching social anthropology and social theory at undergraduate level.
- Can integrate archaeology, human evolution, world history, and material culture into their teaching.
- Demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement between anthropology and archaeology.
- Show an interest in large-scale or comparative questions concerning the development of human societies.
- While research specialisation is open, an ability to bridge disciplinary boundaries will be highly valued.
