We are inviting Registered Mental Health Nurses to join our inpatient team at Foss Park Hospital in York. Whether you are newly qualified or bring years of experience, this role offers the structure, supervision, and encouragement needed to thrive in modern mental health nursing.

Your Clinical Environment
Foss Park Hospital is a purpose-built mental health facility offering 72 en-suite inpatient bedrooms for working-age adults and older people. The hospital includes:
- Minster Ward (18 beds – male acute ward)
- Ebor Ward (18 beds – female acute ward)
- Two additional wards supporting older adults
The site includes therapeutic and vocational spaces designed to support meaningful recovery and safe discharge planning back into the community.
The Role
As an RMN on Minster Ward, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and medical staff. Your contribution will be central to ensuring high standards of compassionate, evidence-based care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering holistic mental and physical health care.
- Administering and monitoring medication.
- Conducting clinical observations, including physical health checks.
- Leading one-to-one therapeutic sessions with patients.
- Coordinating shifts and, where appropriate, acting as Nurse in Charge.
- Supporting collaborative discharge planning.
- Working closely with families, carers, and external agencies.
- This is a 24/7 service. The post involves 12-hour shifts across days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Professional Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as RNMH or RNLD.
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Willingness to work toward Practice Assessor/Mentor status within an agreed timeframe.
- Clinical Supervisor training (to be completed within six months if not already held).
Experience
- Supporting individuals experiencing mental ill health.
- Working within person-centred, therapeutic environments.
- Collaborative practice within multidisciplinary teams.
- Partnership working with carers and external services.
Knowledge & Clinical Competence
- Risk assessment and risk management in mental health settings.
- Clinical governance and quality standards.
- Safeguarding principles and legal frameworks including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Recovery-focused and trauma-informed approaches to care.
Skills
- Communicating sensitive information with clarity and empathy.
- Effective time management and prioritisation.
- Assertive and positive teamwork.
- Demonstrating resilience in complex clinical situations.
