Lead, Inspire, and Shape Mental Health Services for Older Adults
This role is an exceptional opportunity for a Consultant in Older Persons Mental Health (OPMH) to provide clinical leadership, RC responsibility, and high-quality care across the wards at Gosport War Memorial Hospital. You will join a collaborative team including a part-time consultant, three resident doctors, and a middle-grade doctor, serving two inpatient areas and providing specialist expertise in older adult mental health care.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Leadership
- Provide expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for older adult patients across multiple wards.
- Oversee Responsible Clinician (RC) duties and ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act 1983.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver seamless care.
Team & Service Development
- Promote clarity of professional roles and responsibilities among team members.
- Facilitate effective communication within and between teams to support patient safety and service efficiency.
- Ensure all team members are engaged in clinical decision-making and understand collective responsibilities.
Governance & Quality
Participate in clinical governance, service planning, and development.
Contribute to academic meetings, teaching, and training opportunities for junior staff and medical students.
Engage in audits, quality improvement, and research activities to enhance service delivery.

Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- MRCPsych (or recognised equivalent)
- CCT in Older Persons Psychiatry (or within 6 months at interview)
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Eligible for inclusion on the General Medical Council Specialist Register
