Your Role in the Team

Working on Minster Ward, an acute adult inpatient unit, you will become part of a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, and medical professionals. Together, you’ll provide safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering comprehensive nursing care, including medication administration
  • Undertaking physical health monitoring and clinical observations
  • Providing meaningful one-to-one therapeutic engagement
  • Coordinating shifts and, where appropriate, acting as Nurse in Charge
  • Supporting discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions back into the community

You’ll be encouraged to practice autonomously while having consistent access to supervision, learning opportunities, and professional support.

About the Service

Foss Park Hospital is a modern, purpose-built mental health facility providing inpatient services for working-age adults and older adults. The site includes:

  • 72 en-suite inpatient bedrooms
  • Four inpatient wards (two for working-age adults, two for older adults)
  • Dedicated therapeutic, vocational, and activity spaces
  • A supportive, recovery-focused environment

Minster Ward (male) and Ebor Ward (female) each provide 18 inpatient beds designed to promote safe recovery and timely discharge.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) as RMN or RNLD
  • Commitment to practice assessor/mentor development
  • Clinical supervision training (or willingness to complete within probation)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Essential Experience

  • Supporting individuals with mental ill health
  • Working in recovery-focused or therapeutic settings
  • Collaborating with service users, families, and carers
  • Multidisciplinary and multi-agency working

Knowledge & Skills

  • Clinical risk assessment and management
  • Safeguarding responsibilities
  • Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act application
  • Strong communication skills for complex or sensitive situations
  • Ability to prioritise, motivate others, and promote recovery-based care

Working Pattern

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Rotational days, nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • 24/7 inpatient service
