We welcome both experienced HCPC-registered scientists and those working towards their IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
Role Overview
As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, your responsibilities will include:
- Performing day-to-day haematology and blood transfusion testing, including preventative maintenance, quality control, and external quality assurance.
- Adhering to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and UKAS 15189/17025 standards for laboratory testing.
- Operating advanced lab platforms such as Abbott Alinity Hq/Hs, Tosoh G11, Werfen ACL Tops, Ortho Vision, and StarrSed.
- Conducting haemoglobinopathy screening and other specialist diagnostic services across sites.
- Managing stock levels, equipment temperature monitoring using Tutela, and ensuring lab cleanliness in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Logging and reporting non-conformances through the Quality Management System (Q Pulse).
- Supporting clinical teams by answering queries and escalating complex cases to senior staff.
- Maintaining up-to-date training records and participating in department development initiatives.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- BSc in Biomedical Sciences or an IBMS-accredited degree suitable for HCPC registration
- Completed or in-progress IBMS Specialist Portfolio
- Minimum 2 years NHS haematology lab experience
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of specialist techniques within haematology or transfusion science
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- Previous participation in audit, research, or guideline development
