Play a Vital Role in Patient Safety

Behind every safe hospital stay is a team ensuring equipment is clean, functional and ready when needed. As an Assistant Technical Officer within the Mattress Decontamination Team, you will help protect patients from infection while supporting clinical teams across the hospital.

This is a practical, hands-on position where your attention to detail and commitment to high standards will directly contribute to patient comfort, dignity and safety.

What This Role Involves

You will work as part of the Decontamination Science service, ensuring dynamic pressure-relieving mattresses are:

  • Collected from wards and departments
  • Thoroughly cleaned and disinfected
  • Carefully inspected for safety and functionality
  • Barcoded and tracked through internal systems
  • Returned promptly for safe clinical use

You will also:

  • Follow strict infection prevention and control procedures
  • Adhere to Quality Management System standards
  • Transport equipment safely between hospital areas
  • Check decontamination certification and documentation
  • Maintain accurate records using electronic systems
  • This role requires physical activity, safe manual handling and the ability to work efficiently in a busy healthcare environment.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • GCSE-level literacy and numeracy (or equivalent)
  • Basic keyboard and IT skills
  • Willingness to complete departmental training
  • Medically cleared by Occupational Health
  • Flexibility to work weekends, bank holidays and on-call rota
  • Ability to work across King’s Mill and Newark sites

Desirable

  • Knowledge of health & safety and moving & handling
  • Experience in an NHS or decontamination setting
  • Apprenticeship or formal training in decontamination
  • NHS National Decontamination Training Programme
