An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) on the Isle of Wight. The Role
This consultant position combines strategic leadership with hands-on clinical expertise. You will support adult (ageless) community mental health services and may contribute across:
- Inpatient services
- Recovery pathways
- Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP)
- Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams (CRHTT)
- Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT)
A small, focused caseload will allow you to respond promptly to complex and high-risk cases while providing expert guidance to the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and consultant oversight within the MDT.
- Lead assessment and management of complex cases using a biopsychosocial framework.
- Support recovery-focused, evidence-based practice.
- Oversee care planning, safeguarding, and risk management processes.
- Engage effectively with carers, inpatient wards, and community services.
- Offer supervision, education, and triage leadership.
- Maintain clear outcome measures, focusing on both clinical results and patient experience.
- This role requires confident decision-making, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide containment and reassurance within high-risk or uncertain clinical situations.
Incentive Package
Successful candidates will receive:

Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council.
- MRCPsych (or recognised equivalent qualification).
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry (or within six months of completion at interview).
- Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
