Be Part of a Nationally Specialised Service
An exciting opportunity has become available to join the NHS England Highly Specialised Rare Disease Service for NF2-related Schwannomatosis, hosted within the ENT Department at Cambridge.
This unique service supports patients living with Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2), a rare genetic condition requiring highly coordinated, multidisciplinary care. Operating as a hub-and-spoke model, the Cambridge team provides central coordination across Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham and the wider East of England and Midlands region.
As a Medical Secretary / PA, you will play a vital role in ensuring patients, families and clinical teams experience seamless communication, accurate data handling and well-organised care pathways.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
This is a varied and people-focused administrative role that combines secretarial expertise, data management and service coordination.
- Core Duties
- Service Coordination
- Organise and prepare documentation for multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
- Support scheduling, communication and follow-up across regional centres
- Assist in maintaining smooth coordination between hub and spoke services
Patient & Professional Communication
- Triage and redirect telephone, email and written queries
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and families
- Liaise confidently with clinicians and administrative colleagues
PA & Administrative Support
- Provide PA support to specialist nurses
- Assist ENT and NF2 clinicians with correspondence and documentation
- Produce high-quality letters, reports and templates
Data & Governance
- Manage scan results, audit data and clinical review submissions
- Maintain accurate databases and confidential records
- Support national reporting and data collection processes
- The role requires on-site presence, with the possibility of one remote working day per week following completion of training.

What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Educated to A-Level or NVQ Level 3 (Customer Service, Business Admin, ITQ or equivalent)
- Typing qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience in a busy clerical, administrative or reception setting
- Minute taking and document production skills
- Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities
- Knowledge of confidentiality and data protection principles
- Confident user of Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills (written, telephone and face-to-face)
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
Desirable
- Previous NHS experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Database management experience
- Supervisory or leadership exposure
- No prior knowledge of NF2 is required — full training will be provided.
