The HIV and Sexual Health research team at Brighton and Sussex Medical School is seeking a motivated Research Fellow to contribute to clinical studies involving people living with HIV. This is a collaborative, patient-focused research role combining data collection, analysis, and engagement within healthcare settings. You will work alongside clinicians, academics, and community partners to generate evidence that improves care, informs policy, and advances understanding in HIV and sexual health.
This position is part-time (up to 0.8 FTE / 30 hours per week) with flexibility considered where operationally possible. The contract runs until 30 June 2027.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the design, delivery, and evaluation of HIV clinical research
- Collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative datasets
- Recruiting participants in NHS clinical environments
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across academic and clinical settings
- Contributing to publications, reports, and knowledge exchange activities
Who this role suits
You will be someone who enjoys applied clinical research and values teamwork, organisation, and communication. Ideal candidates bring:
- A PhD in a relevant discipline (public health, global health, or related field)
- Demonstrated research experience in HIV (quantitative and/or qualitative)
- Experience recruiting participants within UK NHS clinical settings
- Strong analytical, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative mindset suited to multidisciplinary research
- Experience in HIV advocacy or community engagement (desirable)

Eligibility & sponsorship
This role is assigned an eligible SOC code but does not qualify for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship due to part-time hours. All work must be performed in the UK. Research activity will involve collaboration with NHS partners such as National Health Service.
