About the Role
Hull University Teaching Hospitals is recruiting a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to join its busy Allied Health Professionals team. This role provides a unique opportunity to develop your skills across multiple acute care settings in a Major Trauma Centre and teaching hospital environment. You’ll work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy that supports patient recovery, promotes wellbeing, and enhances independence.
This rotational post is designed to give broad clinical exposure, supporting both patient care and the development of junior colleagues.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you’ll:
- Assess and treat patients with a wide range of acute conditions.
- Deliver interventions using current evidence-based practice to support recovery and independence.
- Mentor, support and supervise junior staff and students.
- Contribute to service development, teaching, and clinical leadership.
- Work flexibly across two hospital sites, providing high-quality care in a range of specialties.
Rotation Areas
During your rotation (9 months to 1 year per area, service-dependent), you will gain experience in:
- Acute Medicine & Frailty Services
- Emergency Department & Admission Avoidance
- Stroke Assessment & Rehabilitation
- Neurosurgery & Complex Rehabilitation
- Trauma & Orthopaedics
- Oncology
- Critical Care & Surgical Pathways
This post is ideal for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist who has completed core rotations and is ready to step into more senior practice. A Band 5-to-6 development plan may be considered for the right candidate.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- Current UK professional registration (see below for registration guidance)
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- At least 12 months’ UK clinical experience as a qualified OT
- Ability to manage a complex clinical caseload in a fast-paced environment
- Competence in functional and risk assessments, manual handling, cognitive and upper limb assessments
- Full UK driving licence (for community and access visits)
Desirable
- Experience supervising junior staff or students
- Previous NHS acute healthcare experience
- Accredited educator status or membership of relevant professional interest groups
- Knowledge of local prescribing policy and community equipment processes
Professional Registration
To work as an Occupational Therapist in the UK you must hold current UK registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
