Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer – Carbon Composite Propeller Systems
Dowty Propellers (a GE Aerospace company)
Location: State-of-the-art facility in Gloucestershire, UK

At Dowty Propellers, part of GE Aerospace, we specialize in the design, production, repair, and overhaul of cutting-edge propeller systems for both military and civil aircraft. Our modern facility in Gloucestershire serves as the hub for manufacturing advanced carbon composite propellers that power some of the world’s most demanding applications.

We are ooking for a dedicated Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic Manufacturing Engineering team. In this hands-on role, you’ll play a vital part in supporting the production of our high-performance composite propeller systems. Your focus will be on refining manufacturing processes, tackling challenges through systematic approaches, upholding strict safety and regulatory standards, and evolving components, methods, and designs to preserve product quality and performance.

You’ll collaborate closely with teams across planning, operations, quality, and engineering to maintain smooth, efficient production while delivering reliable, airworthy products that meet customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as an active, self-driven contributor within a skilled, multidisciplinary team to address and resolve manufacturing challenges effectively.
  • Use data-backed, structured problem-solving techniques (such as Lean, Six Sigma, or 8D) to identify root causes and implement lasting solutions.
  • Develop and refine end-to-end production processes from raw materials through to finished components always prioritizing Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) in decision-making.
  • Write, update, and continuously enhance clear, user-friendly work instructions that comply fully with engineering specifications and technical requirements.
  • Deliver practical training and on-the-shop-floor guidance to production operatives, helping them adopt new techniques and process updates confidently.
  • Drive measurable, year-on-year gains in critical performance areas, including throughput, yield, cycle times, and defect rates.
  • Prepare and deliver concise project status updates to stakeholders, highlighting progress, potential risks, and required actions.

What We’re Looking For (Essential)

  • A solid understanding of manufacturing engineering principles and their application in a production setting.
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods.
Confidence reading and interpreting technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and detailed specifications.
  • Strong communication skills clear, concise, and effective in both written and verbal formats, including group discussions.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC (Level 4) or equivalent in a relevant manufacturing or engineering field, plus practical experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a composite materials environment.
  • Background in configuration control within a regulated sector (ideally aerospace/aviation, though other high-compliance industries are valuable).
  • Formal training or proven track record in a problem-solving framework (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, or RedX).
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as 3D CATIA, 2D AutoCAD, or similar software.
  • Prior involvement in designing, maintaining, or improving fixtures, tooling, and production equipment.

We know no one ticks every box perfectly, so if this role excites you and you feel you align with most of the requirements, we’d love to hear from you—apply speculatively or connect with our recruitment team for an informal chat.
