About the Role
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Pharmacy is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Pharmacist in Aseptic Manufacturing to join our evolving pharmacy team. This role is based within our specialised Pharmacy Manufacturing unit, which provides aseptic and cytotoxic medicines for paediatric patients across NHS, private care and clinical trials.
You will play a central role in maintaining high standards of aseptic production, quality assurance and compliance with UK regulations, and you will help lead our Technical Services team into the next stage of development as part of the new GOSH Children’s Cancer Centre.
What You’ll Be Doing
As the Senior Pharmacist in Aseptic Manufacturing, you will:
Leadership & Team Management
• Oversee and support the Technical Services Pharmacists, technicians and operators.
• Lead training and development programs to strengthen team skills.
• Allocate operational duties and foster collaborative working across services.
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure all aseptic manufacturing and dispensing meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulatory obligations.
• Maintain and improve the Quality Management System in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.
• Participate in internal and external audits, with responsibility for corrective actions and recommendations.
Technical & Operational Duties
• Act as a Releasing Officer for products prepared under the Manufactured Specials (MS) licence.
• Support the Head of Pharmacy Manufacturing with quality tasks and sign‑off.
• Deputise for the Head of Pharmacy Manufacturing when required.
• Attend meetings and communicate key information to stakeholders.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential Qualifications & Registration
- Â Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Postgraduate qualification relevant to Technical Services, Quality Assurance or Pharmaceutical Technology.
Essential Experience
Substantial experience in GMP manufacturing environments or Quality Assurance roles.
Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic processes, stability, validation requirements and regulatory compliance (GXP, GCP).
Experience delivering training and performing audits.
NHS pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
Desirable
• Experience in team leadership or recruitment processes.
• Familiarity with Q‑Pulse or electronic quality systems.
Skills & Attributes
• Excellent English communication – written and verbal.
• Strong computer skills including MS Word, Excel and clinical systems (e.g., EPIC).
• High attention to documentation accuracy and adherence to procedures.
• Strong analytical, risk assessment, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
