About the Opportunity
University of Reading is expanding its Politics and International Relations provision and invites applications for two Lecturer positions in International Relations. These posts focus on complementary areas:
- Contemporary war and conflict
- International security
You will join a research-active department committed to exploring how global power, conflict, and security are evolving. The roles combine high-quality teaching with ambitious research, supporting a vibrant academic community that engages with both scholarly debates and real-world policy challenges.
Role Focus
Successful candidates will:
- Deliver engaging, research-informed teaching in international relations and security
- Contribute specialist teaching in areas such as contemporary warfare, global security, or emerging threats
- Develop an innovative research programme aligned with international security studies
- Produce high-quality outputs suitable for strong research assessment performance
- Participate in departmental initiatives, student mentoring, and academic administration
- Contribute to collaborative research activity through the department’s security and governance networks
We particularly welcome scholars exploring evolving security challenges — including technology, cyber issues, environmental pressures, and shifting patterns of conflict.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for academics who demonstrate:
- A developing or established research agenda in international security or conflict studies
- Potential to produce impactful, high-quality research
- Commitment to inspiring teaching and student engagement
- Ability to integrate research into curriculum delivery
