About the Role
University of Reading is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Careers Consultant to support students in developing career confidence, employability skills, and professional direction.
Working within an award-winning Careers & Employability team, you will collaborate with academic schools — particularly Humanities, Arts, and Communication Design — to embed employability into the student experience. The role blends consultancy, teaching, coaching, and project leadership to enhance graduate outcomes and career readiness.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a background in higher-education careers guidance, HR early-talent development, or professional coaching who is motivated by making a measurable difference to student futures.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Provide labour market insight and strategic consultancy to academic partners
- Design and deliver engaging careers learning sessions and workshops
- Offer tailored 1:1 coaching to support student career planning
- Lead employability projects, including postgraduate and alumni initiatives
- Collaborate across departments to integrate career learning into curricula
- Analyse trends in graduate recruitment and apply insights to service design
- Use blended and digital learning tools to maximise student engagement
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome candidates who demonstrate:
- A degree (preferably Humanities or Arts) or equivalent experience
- A professional qualification in careers guidance, coaching, or related field (or working toward one)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong analytical ability to interpret and communicate labour market data
- Experience influencing stakeholders across organisational levels
- Project management capability and effective prioritisation skills
- Confidence delivering sessions to both small and large audiences
- Knowledge of UK graduate recruitment practices and labour market trends
