Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) or Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) to join our busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Dolphin Ward is a 10-bed specialist NICU caring for infants across a wide range of specialties — from prematurity to complex surgical, neurological and multi-system conditions  offering richly varied and highly specialised clinical experience.

This senior role blends expert clinical practice with leadership, quality improvement, mentorship and innovation. You will work autonomously and collaboratively, applying advanced skills to support the delivery of world-class neonatal care.

What You Will Do

You will be expected to:

Clinical Leadership & Practice

  • Provide expert advanced clinical care to neonates across a wide range of complex conditions
  • Apply advanced assessment skills to initiate treatment within your scope of practice
  • Promote high standards of care, ensuring practice aligns with clinical guidelines and trust policy
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical judgment, autonomy and decision-making

Professional & Quality Development

Education & Mentorship

  • Supervise and mentor healthcare staff developing advanced clinical skills
  • Participate in training and development of trainees and other professionals
  • Maintain an active approach to your own professional development, appraisal and portfolio

Team Working & Communication

  • Lead collaboratively across multi-professional teams
  • Communicate effectively with families, clinicians and staff at all levels
  • Support team resilience, wellbeing and positive practice culture

Essential Qualifications & Professional Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Registration with an appropriate professional body enabling Advanced Clinical Practice (aligned with the Centre for Advanced Practice model)
  • Master’s degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent competence across all Advanced Practice domains
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to neonatal clinical care
  • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification, or willingness to complete
  • Advanced life support training (e.g., APLS, NLS or willingness to undertake)

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience at senior level in neonatal or paediatric practice
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex clinical scenarios
  • Engagement in quality improvement, audit or research activity
  • High-level communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Competence in teaching, mentoring and supervision of staff
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively

Desirable

  • Experience with clinical leadership programmes
  • Formal teaching or mentorship qualification
  • Evidence of published work or conference presentations
  • Experience in handling clinical governance, safeguarding and research methodologies
