Role Summary

We are recruiting Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) apprentices across a range of specialist departments. This role is ideal for individuals beginning a career in clinical support and patient care within a world-leading children’s hospital.

As an HCSW apprentice, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide compassionate support to children, young people, and their families.

About the Apprenticeship

This position is an 18-month apprenticeship that combines practical workplace learning with formal training. The apprenticeship aligns with the UK’s recognised healthcare support standards, and you’ll be supported throughout your development.

Who We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, applicants should:

Minimum Qualifications

  • GCSEs at grade 4-9 (or equivalent, such as Functional Skills Level 2) in English and Mathematics.
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively.

Essential Attributes

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a caring attitude.
  • Ability to follow workplace procedures and instructions.
  • Previous experience in public-facing roles and teamwork.

This is an entry-level post. Candidates with advanced clinical experience (for example, venepuncture, ECGs, wound care) may be considered over-experienced for this apprenticeship and instead encouraged to explore alternative roles.

Key Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Support Worker apprentice, you will:

  • Provide safe, compassionate support to patients and families.
  • Assist the clinical team with basic care duties appropriate to your training.
  • Contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Carry out administrative tasks relevant to your work area.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Report concerns or changes in patient needs appropriately.

  • Thursday, 12 February 2026 • 13:00–14:00
  • Tuesday, 17 February 2026 • 11:00–12:00

Application and Recruitment Process

Once your application is submitted:

  • Shortlisting – Your application will be reviewed against the person specification.
  • Eligibility Check – If shortlisted, our training partner (Dynamic Training) will assess your apprenticeship eligibility.
  • Interview Day – Successful candidates will be invited to attend a structured interview at GOSH on 11 March 2026.
  • Start Date – Expected to begin in May or June 2026 (exact date confirmed at interview).
