About the Role

The Assistant Director of Operations is a senior leadership position, acting as the local face of SWASFT for their county. This role is pivotal in ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, delivering operational excellence, supporting staff experience, and meeting performance targets.

As a senior role model, you will embed SWASFT’s values—One Team, Compassion, and Innovation—throughout your leadership style, while leading teams to drive service improvement, quality, and efficiency across all operational areas.

You will be accountable for:

  • Operational planning and delivery of ambulance and urgent care services across your county.
  • Staff leadership and engagement, ensuring a supportive and professional environment.
  • Collaborative relationships with stakeholders including NHS partners, local authorities, and voluntary sector organisations.
  • Continuous improvement, championing innovation and best practice in patient care.

This role requires a dynamic, highly motivated leader with exceptional communication, problem-solving, and strategic management skills to oversee complex services and deliver tangible improvements for patients and communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational teams to deliver safe, timely, and effective emergency and urgent care across the county.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and innovation within the service.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Drive service development initiatives, including embedding new models of care and digital technologies.
  • Represent SWASFT at local, regional, and national forums, advocating for the Trust’s priorities.
  • Mentor, support, and develop staff to enhance skills and career progression.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, legal frameworks, and NHS policies.
