Role Overview
This is an opportunity to join a supportive multidisciplinary team on a 15-bed acute adult mental health ward in Yeovil. The service supports individuals experiencing severe and complex mental health crises, focusing on stabilisation, recovery, and compassionate therapeutic engagement.
You’ll work alongside nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, and medical colleagues to deliver person-centred, evidence-informed care. The ward environment is dynamic and fast-paced, so success in this role comes from resilience, emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will:
- Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to adults in acute mental health crisis
- Carry out rapid clinical assessments and develop recovery-focused care plans
- Implement therapeutic interventions and monitor outcomes
- Administer medication in line with professional and Trust standards
- Recognise and manage clinical risks to protect patient safety
- Use de-escalation and therapeutic communication during challenging situations
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation aligned with Nursing and Midwifery Council standards
- Act as a named nurse/keyworker, supporting patients through recovery
- Support and mentor junior staff and students
- Participate in clinical reviews, audits, and reflective practice
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
You will also:
- Lead care for allocated patients, coordinating assessments and reviews
- Monitor physical and mental health changes and escalate concerns
- Deliver personal and therapeutic care while preserving dignity
- Complete risk assessments and safeguarding documentation
- Work within statutory frameworks including the Mental Health Act 1983
- Contribute to team learning, governance, and service improvement

Person Requirements
Essential
- Degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Registered Mental Health Nurse with active NMC registration
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to travel across Trust sites when required
Desirable
- Teaching or assessor qualification
- Experience working across multi-agency services
- Evidence of continued professional development
