Role Overview
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leadership, structure, and maintaining high clinical safety standards. As a Decontamination Services Supervisor, you will coordinate day-to-day sterile processing activities to ensure medical equipment is safe, compliant, and available when needed.
You will act as a first-line supervisor, guiding staff while maintaining quality, workflow efficiency, and adherence to regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
In this supervisory role, you will:
- Lead and support Assistant Technical Officers in daily decontamination operations
- Oversee cleaning, inspection, sterilisation, and tracking of reusable medical equipment and mattresses
- Coordinate workloads, rotas, and on-call coverage
- Ensure compliance with quality systems, SOPs, and infection prevention standards
- Communicate with clinical departments to meet urgent service needs
- Monitor equipment performance and arrange servicing when required
- Maintain accurate documentation and audit trails
- Support staff learning, development, and performance monitoring
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential
- Working understanding of decontamination quality and safety standards
- Knowledge of confidentiality and secure data handling
- Ability to prioritise urgent device processing
- GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and Windows-based systems
- Experience in a sterile services/decontamination setting
- Familiarity with tracking or inventory systems
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination (or equivalent training)
- Supervisory or leadership qualification
- Previous team supervision experience
Working Expectations
- Weekend and bank holiday rota participation
- On-call availability
- Flexible supervisory support where required
