Role Overview

Withington Medical Practice is seeking a committed and motivated Salaried General Practitioner to join our friendly multidisciplinary team for 4 sessions per week.

This position is offered under the BMA model contract within a supportive training practice that currently holds a “Good” CQC rating. The successful GP will contribute to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to our local population while working closely with colleagues across the Primary Care Network (PCN).

About the Practice

We are a small, well-established surgery serving approximately 5,500 patients in the Withington area. Our team environment is collaborative and approachable, consisting of:

  • 1 GP Partner
  • 1 Salaried GP
  • Physician Associate
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Practice Manager
  • Administrative Team (4 members)

As an active member of our PCN, we maintain strong partnerships with neighbouring practices to share expertise and improve services for our community.

Main Purpose of the Role

The post holder will provide comprehensive primary medical services in line with the GMS contract and enhanced service objectives. The role combines direct patient care with clinical administration and participation in practice development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Deliver safe and effective medical care to registered patients
  • Conduct face-to-face and telephone consultations
  • Undertake home visits when clinically appropriate
  • Manage acute presentations and long-term conditions
  • Review and authorise repeat prescriptions
  • Participate in the duty doctor rota and telephone triage

Administrative & Clinical Governance

  • Process referrals, blood results, reports, and correspondence promptly
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records
  • Follow national and local prescribing guidance
  • Contribute to audits, quality improvement, and service development
  • Support incident reviews and learning from significant events
  • Engage with practice meetings and governance activities

Team & Development Responsibilities

  • Share workload collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
  • Support the training of medical students and ARRS staff
  • Contribute to QOF performance and continuous improvement projects
  • Participate in appraisal, revalidation, and ongoing CPD
  • Assist partners in achieving strategic and financial objectives

Person Specification

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience working within UK General Practice
  • Within 2 years of receiving Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
  • Experience supporting vulnerable or complex patient groups

Desirable Experience

  • Elderly care or frailty management
  • LGBTQ+ health
  • Quality improvement or service development

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

  • Fully GMC registered with a licence to practise

Qualified General Practitioner

  • Currently included on an NHS Medical Performers List
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Understanding of evidence-based medicine and chronic disease management
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Doctors working in UK primary care must maintain appropriate registration and appraisal arrangements through recognised bodies and approved practice settings.
