Job Description
This is a rare opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability to help shape and lead community-based services within the newly established Hampshire & Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
You will provide consultant-level clinical leadership and oversight to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight, supporting adults with learning disabilities to live healthier, more fulfilled lives within their communities.

About the service
The Community Adult Learning Disability Team is a well-established, fully multidisciplinary service comprising:
Psychiatry
Psychology
Learning Disability Nursing
Occupational Therapy
Physiotherapy
A newly introduced Art Therapy role
The team works closely with experts by experience, carers, social care, and wider system partners across both the Isle of Wight and Hampshire. There is also planned investment to develop an Intensive Support Team, expanding the service’s ability to support individuals with complex needs and reduce inpatient admissions.

Your consultant role
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
Provide senior clinical leadership within the community learning disability pathway
Offer expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
Support positive risk management and safeguarding practices
Work collaboratively with MDT colleagues to coordinate holistic care
Contribute to service development, governance, and quality improvement
Ensure patients and carers understand care plans and know who to contact
Promote a culture of openness, learning, and shared responsibility

Person specification
Essential qualifications & approvals
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry, or within 12 months at interview
- Eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register
- Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983
