Job Description
This is a rare and rewarding opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry to play a pivotal leadership role within a forward-looking NHS Trust at a time of significant transformation. You will be joining a service that is evolving, ambitious, and deeply committed to delivering safe, effective, and compassionate mental health care to its communities.
To support your transition into this role, the Trust is offering a £30,000 Golden Hello, paid in staged instalments over two years (subject to eligibility criteria).
The Role at a Glance
As a Consultant Psychiatrist within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), you will provide clinical leadership, senior decision-making, and expert oversight for adults with complex and severe mental health needs. The role is designed to allow you to focus on quality, complexity, and impact, rather than volume.
Depending on service need and your expertise, your consultant leadership may extend across:
- Adult (ageless) community mental health services
- Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment
- Inpatient and recovery services
- Early Intervention in Psychosis
- You will work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team (MDT), supporting both patient care and professional development.

- Provide senior oversight for treatment decisions, safeguarding concerns, and Mental Health Act processes.
Risk Management & Governance
- Balance clinical risk with recovery, using sound judgement and compassionate leadership to support service users, carers, and staff.
- Ensure services operate in line with national care planning, safeguarding, and risk management standards, including those set out by NICE and NHS England
MDT Support, Supervision & Education
- Chair or contribute to consultant-led MDT and triage meetings, offering clarity, containment, and direction in complex situations.
- Provide high-quality clinical supervision, mentoring, and teaching, fostering a learning culture within the team.
- Support staff wellbeing and confidence during periods of service change.
Partnership Working
- Promote meaningful engagement with carers, families, inpatient teams, and partner services, ensuring joined-up and person-centred care.
- Maintain a strong focus on clinical outcomes and patient experience, using feedback to drive continuous improvement.
