This role has been designed for veterinary surgeons who want meaningful ECC work without burnout. Whether you use your 21 nights off to travel, pursue further study, spend time with family, or simply rest and recharge, this rota offers rare balance while maintaining a rewarding emergency and critical care career.
The Hospital
Medivet Thurmaston is a purpose-built 24-hour hospital, opened in April 2024 and equipped to the highest modern ECC standards. You will work in a clean, well-resourced clinical environment with access to:
- Advanced ultrasound imaging
- Digital and dental X-ray suites
- Endoscopy facilities
- Orthopaedic surgical equipment
- Tonometer and comprehensive ECC monitoring tools
- This is a hospital built to support confident clinical decision-making, efficiency, and excellent patient outcomes — even overnight.
The Role
As a Night Veterinary Surgeon, you will work sole charge, managing a varied emergency and critical care caseload. This position offers a high degree of clinical autonomy and professional satisfaction, ideal for vets who are confident, adaptable, and enjoy working independently when it matters most.
You will manage medical and surgical emergencies, stabilise critical patients, and deliver compassionate care to both patients and clients during vulnerable moments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care in line with clinical and regulatory standards
- Perform diagnostics, treatment planning, and emergency surgery as required
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with clients during overnight consultations
- Work collaboratively with nursing and support teams to ensure patient safety
- Contribute to clinical excellence and continuous improvement across Medivet’s ECC community
Who We’re Looking For
Essential
- MRCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon
- Strong all-round medical and surgical skills
- Previous experience in Emergency & Critical Care
- Confident working sole charge overnight
- Commitment to patient welfare and professional standards
