Job Description
Veterinary Surgeon
Weymouth, Dorset | Full-time or Part-time | Visa Sponsorship Available
Build a rewarding veterinary career by the sea
This is an opportunity to join a practice where high clinical standards, teamwork, and genuine care for people come together — all set in one of the most beautiful coastal towns in the UK.
Medivet Weymouth is a busy, well-established practice with a strong local reputation and a close-knit team culture. Led by an experienced and forward-thinking Branch Partner, the practice offers an environment where veterinary surgeons are supported, listened to, and encouraged to grow at their own pace.
Whether you’re looking to deepen your clinical confidence, expand your surgical exposure, or simply work in a place where collaboration comes naturally, this role offers space to thrive both professionally and personally.
The Practice Environment
This is a multi-vet practice supported by a highly capable and motivated team, including:
- Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs)
- A Student Veterinary Nurse
- A Patient Care Assistant
- Dedicated Client Care Assistants
The team works seamlessly together, and feedback from clients and visiting locums consistently highlights the calm, efficient, and positive atmosphere.
Nurses are empowered to practise to the full scope of their training — leading nurse clinics, undertaking Schedule 3 procedures, supporting surgeries (including dentistry), and playing a central role in patient care.
Facilities & Equipment
The practice is spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed to support both patients and staff, featuring:
- Two consultation rooms
- A dedicated surgical theatre
- Separate dispensary
- In-house laboratory (biochemistry, haematology, urinalysis, microscopy)
- X-ray suite with ultrasound
- Large prep room with a dedicated dental area and overhead lighting
- Otoscopes in consult and prep areas
- A third consulting space used by nursing staff
Cat and dog wards are fully separated with sound insulation and glass-fronted kennels to reduce patient stress. Each ward has independent temperature control, and there’s even a large enclosed garden — ideal for a breather between consults.
The Role
This is a permanent position based on a 40-hour week, though part-time working patterns are open for discussion.
The caseload offers a healthy balance of consultations and surgery, making it well suited to a vet who enjoys variety and building long-term relationships with clients and their pets.
The Branch Partner has a strong interest in advanced soft tissue surgery, including procedures such as BOAS and TECA. This provides excellent learning opportunities for those looking to develop surgically, while still supporting vets who prefer a more generalist role.
Living & Working in Weymouth
Weymouth offers a rare combination of lifestyle and connectivity. With its sandy beaches, working harbour, and proximity to the Jurassic Coast, it’s ideal for anyone who enjoys coastal walks, watersports, or simply a slower pace of life. Despite its relaxed feel, Weymouth remains well connected to the rest of Dorset and the South West.
